


A LARGE ECOLOGICAL AND CULTURAL DIVERSITY
GEOGRAPHIC AND HUMAN VICINITY
Jujuy north of west Argentina, bordering Chile and Bolivia. This province is 350 km (220 miles) wide, located between rain forest and Atacama desert.
UNESCO has classified Huamahuaca’s slopes as World Heritage, due to the diversity of its natural landscape and its genuine culture.
This Andean valley spreads on a succession of high oasis, surrounded by mineral and very colorful landscapes where giant cacti grow. Here countrymen live on family farms using domestic animals (cattle and horses) as main power.
Green and humid valleys bordering the chain are scattered with large estancias (ranches) dating from the colonial period. They are dedicated to tobacco growth, and to cattle and horse breeding.
Puna located between 3000 and 4500 meters high (9 000 and 15 000 feet is a high plateau ornated of volcanoes of topped by 6000 m .This geographic zone offers a large variety of wildlife and flora, as well as original human activity .On these deserted lands the Coyas Amerindians live in communities, where each lama breeder family owns over two thousand square acres of arid steppe, which they share with vicunas and wild guanacos.
